World‘s Ceramic Capital
UNESCO names Safi as the world's first historical ceramic city.
Safi has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the title of "World City for Industrial Ceramics."
Safi is well-known for his potteries and ceramics, and he has a high-quality argile, which has earned him UNESCO recognition.
Fatima-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Artisanship, and Social and Solidarity Economy, expressed her delight at the honor : « Since ancient times, Morocco has had a variety of craft traditions, many of which are masterful blends of creativity and quality.
UNESCO has named Safi, a birthplace of ceramic masters and home to the National Ceramic Museum, as a World Heritage Site of Ceramics.
The Minister of Tourism, Artisanat, and Social and Solidarity Economy wrote on his Instagram account, "A fierté pour tous les marocains."
"Safi is also home to the Musée National de la Céramique, which has been in existence since 1920. Created in 1990, this monument was resurrected by the Fondation Nationale des Musées in 2018 and is now one of Morocco's most renowned museums, thanks to the wealth and diversity of its collection, which is primarily made up of Moroccan pottery and ceramics. More than 600 objects are kept, studied, and, for the most part, shown there."
